More About Tom

Tom Hartnett is a lifelong Lowcountry resident, small-business owner, husband, and father who proudly represents South Carolina House District 110.

Born and raised in Mount Pleasant, Tom has deep roots in the community he now has the privilege of representing. He and his college sweetheart, Alison, have been married for 25 years, and both are graduates of the College of Charleston. Alison is a public school teacher, and together they are raising their three sons in Mount Pleasant.

Tom built his career as a small-business owner and real estate appraiser, giving him firsthand experience with the challenges facing local businesses, working families, and a rapidly growing Lowcountry.

Elected to the South Carolina House in 2022, Tom serves on the House Education and Public Works Committee and as Chairman of the Motor Vehicles and Public Safety Subcommittee. His work in Columbia focuses on keeping communities safe, improving roads and infrastructure, strengthening education, and protecting the quality of life that makes the Lowcountry a special place to call home.

But Tom's commitment to his community began long before he was elected. He has coached through the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department, served as a Cub Scout Den Leader, and volunteered in local public schools through his sons' sports teams. Tom and his family are active members of Christ Church in Mount Pleasant, and he has remained involved in a number of civic and community organizations throughout the Charleston area.

For Tom, serving in the State House is personal. District 110 is where he grew up, built his business, raised his family, and volunteered in his community. He remains committed to being present, accessible, and a strong voice for the people who call the Lowcountry home.
